CHAPTER XIV. TRAFFICCHAPTER XIV. TRAFFIC\ARTICLE 2. LOCAL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

(a)   It shall be unlawful for the driver of any motor vehicle to use or cause to be used or operated any compression release engine braking system Jake brake within the City Limits of the City of Clifton, Kansas.

(b)   As used in this section, compression release engine braking system means a hydraulically operated device that converts a power producing diesel engine into a power absorbing retarding mechanism.

(c)   Any person violating this article shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in an amount of not less than ten dollars ($10.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each offense, or to imprisonment for not more than thirty (30) days or a combination of both.

(a)   From and after the effective date of this article, it shall be unlawful for any person or persons having charge of the operation of any motor propelled vehicle traveling upon the streets of said city to make a so called “U” turn at any street intersection in said city at which posted by the Governing Body of said City.

(b)   Any person or persons violating the provisions of this article shall be deemed to be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not exceeding $100.00 or confined in the City Jail for a period of not exceeding 30 days or by both such fine and imprisonment.

It shall be unlawful for any truck or other vehicles, whether being used for the transfer or storage of liquefied anhydrous ammonia gas, to be stopped or parked at any place within the City limits of the City of Clifton, Kansas; provided, that all such vehicles may be parked within the City limits for not to exceed (1) hour.

(a)   The operation of commercial trucks except pick-up trucks, local farm trucks hauling agricultural products to market in the city, and local delivery trucks is hereby prohibited on all streets in the city, except such streets as are designated by the State Highway Commission as through highways in said city; provided, however, that any truck required to enter upon any street in said city to pick up or to deliver merchandise, wheat or other agricultural products or household goods shall be exempted from such prohibition while traveling to or from such pick up or delivery transaction.

(b)   The police department shall cause to be erected at the entrance of all through highways into said city designated by the State Highway Commission as such, suitable signs warning commercial truck drivers of this provision.

(c)   Any person who violates this section shall be adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined in an amount not to exceed the sum of $25.00.
